July 2008
Fires rage all over California and our skies are
smoky. Hot summer weather is here and it's time to slow down, try to keep cool and refresh
ourselves. It's a good time to read a new book, get inspired and take care of ourselves. Some find
it helpful to have a specific personal space for quiet reflection. I encourage you this summer to find
that space and take the time you need to feed your heart and soul.
Taking Care of You and Your Dreams
Making Time for Inspiration and Relaxation
Whether you are a Mom with kids demanding your time, a spouse trying to consider the needs of
your partner, or single business woman taking care of all your own needs, you need to take time
for renewal and inspiration. Only you can create that time for yourself.
And during those times of renewal, all kinds of good stuff might surface for consideration. See
Personal Retreat, to the left, for ideas to create the time and space to renew yourself.
First ---
Start by making a list of at least 10 things that you have always dreamed about doing. They can
be ordinary or seem outrageous or grandiose. Don't think too hard, just keep writing. Now look at
the list. Pick one thing on which to meditate. Close your eyes and imagine yourself in that
situation. Be very specific as you envision this dream. Pay attention to the details of the
surroundings in your vision.
Where are you? Inside or outside?
What are you doing?
What do you see in this space?
What colors do you see?
What is the temperature?
Is there a fragrance?
What are you wearing?
How are you feeling?
When you have expended all your imagination on this dream, open your eyes and write down what
you saw and felt.
Then ---
Is there any part of that dream/vision that you could make real this week? Maybe you begin with
research, or maybe you need to get on the phone and make some arrangements to get started.
Would pen and paper help? Maybe you have all you need at your fingertips, or buried in that box
in the garage or closet. Get in there and pull out what you need and get started. They are your
dreams, they are your needs and wants. If you imagined how wonderful it felt in the first exercise,
just think how you will feel to actually be working toward your vision.
Go for it! Then let me know what you have started. I'd really love to know.

PERSONAL RETREAT
Make a commitment to yourself to take time for renewal and relaxation on a regular basis.
1. Create a quiet place where you can think, meditate, write, or create.
2. Make this place off-limits to family members when you are taking a "time out".
This might be the hardest thing on the list but set your boundaries and help your family learn that
your time has value too.
3. Use soft music, candle light, a water feature or some incense to create the mood you desire.
4. Create an area with objects that have meaning to you and that bring you to a place of
contemplation. You can use photos that have significance to you, printed poems or writings that
inspire you or any object that has a sacred quality for you.
5. Use this time to meditate, write, sing, create artwork or whatever brings your soul joy. This is
your time.
You may be surprised with what comes up!
Finding Treasures
Are you willing to look at yourself?
Are you willing to take responsibility for your own life?
Are you willing to let something die in order for something new to arrive?
Let the questions lead you from the darkness to the light.
Hear the soul's call, pay attention.
