Rediscover Yourself and Redesign Your Life January 2009
"There is a time for departure, even when there's no certain place to go." ---Tennessee Williams
As we begin a new year, new beginnings are everywhere. Let go of what is not working for you by
first evaluating your life, your purpose, your passions. Then begin a plan for the new year and
start traveling down that path to the life you dream of. Go ahead, start walking. . .
Sincerely,
Gail Brokaw
The Rebirth Experience
To walk through the door requires leaving the space you are in now.
Erich Fromm said "The whole life of the individual is nothing but the process of giving birth to
himself(herself). . . Just as our skin cells are constantly replacing themselves, we too have the
ability to reinvent, redesign and rediscover ourselves and our lives. It isn't necessarily an easy or
comfortable process. In fact, it is frequently painful, scary, and uncomfortable. This process
requires letting go of the old thought processes, the old ways, and the old perceptions of who we
thought we would be or where we thought we would be at this point in our life. Change requires a
transition period which enables us to go inward and review what it is that we want, what we are not
willing to accept anymore, and where we want our journey to take us. It is a time of deep
introspection and creativity and can be rich with symbolism. This is YOUR LIFE. You have the
ability to make it what you wish.
1. Pay attention to that small quiet voice or it will begin to yell at you! (and who likes to be
yelled at?)
2. Create a time and place where you are still and able to listen to that voice. (That means get
away from people and things that will interrupt this thought process.)
3. Journal, make lists, write a story, draw a picture, take symbolic photos; anything that will help
you begin to know the path you want to follow. These things will help you to gain a better direction
for yourself.
4. Start by making a step by step plan.
a. What do you want to accomplish?
i. Break it down into manageable goals.
b. When do you want to accomplish this?
i. Assign dates for each goal.
c. What do you need to accomplish this?
i. Is there something or someone needed to support you in accomplishing your goal?
d. Who do you need to assist you?
i. Speak with that person and tell them what you need.
e. How will you know when you have arrived?
i. Check with the list of goals and dates.
f. Reevaluate.
i. How do you feel?
ii. What is your energy like?
iii. Does this process feel complete or does it feel like a step in the right direction?
iv. Again, listen to that voice inside yourself and know that it is real.
