August 2008
I just had the fence replaced around my yard. It took the contractor four days and the entire time our
yard was open and exposed to the world that drove by. It was a slightly uncomfortable feeling, especially
the first day but I had to let go of trying to do the work myself and appreciate the help I was getting.
When we are working on our lives, personal or business, we sometimes feel as though we have been
dismantled and are exposed to anyone who looks at us. It's uncomfortable but if we can learn to go with
the flow, trust, and learn as we go, we'll have a finished product (us) that we will be proud of.
Don't Fence Me In
Discovering Options
Are you feeling fenced in?
If your life or job feels like it is limiting you, make a change.
If you feel your current circumstances provides few options, double check that assumption.
It is possible to breakout of that "fenced-in feeling" by reviewing your values, your strengths, the things
that bring meaning to your life and other important features of your preferred lifestyle.
Ask yourself these questions.
1. What is my motivation for making a change?
2. Do I feel a passion about making this change?
3. How can I create the best environment for myself to produce this change?
4. Do I have the tools that I will need to be successful?
5. How do I envision myself after this change occurs?
6. What support do I need to achieve this goal?
Discovering that you have options is wonderful. Then decide what needs to be done to achieve one
goal toward the chosen option and you are on your way to breaking out of the fenced-in feeling and
moving toward a more joyful and meaningful life. More. . .
Tell me about the fences and walls that you have scaled or broken through at my blog.
Finding Treasures
Green Gulch Zen Center

If you are looking for a place to relax, think about your priorities and values in an extremely quiet and
beautiful atmosphere, consider a retreat like Green Gulch Zen Center in Marin County. An easy hike to
Muir Beach through vegetable gardens and walks along the cliffs overlooking the ocean bring peace
and relaxation to your time spent there. Don't go with an agenda. Go with an open heart and mind and
just pay attention to what happens in each moment.
For more treasures and conversations, go to A Gathering of Women Blog . We're talking about "What
Now", a book by Ann Patchett. Check it out. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
